The Puffin

The Puffin designed in 2010 has proved to be a top seller. Developed from a commissioned custom order it has similar qualities to the highly popular Quad Fish but its rounded tail and Five fin set-up make for a whole new feel. Great summer board and mush buster, but still able to handle most average UK waves. Like the Puffin bird this board looks short and fat on land but is fast and agile in the water!

The Puffin has the nose and middle rocker line and rails of the Keel fin fish so catches waves and paddles like a dream, then I've added a modern tail lift, concaves and foiled tail to give maximum drive and grip from the wide tail.

The Puffins Creation

Like most good designs, the Puffin was created from a customer coming to me and saying "lets try making a...." in the Puffins case it was an existing customer Harry Knight. Harry an experienced surfer and instructor has been surfing the Five fin Pro Quadster for several years and has offered valuable feed back which has gone into that models development as well (see Pro Quadster below for photo's) After moving to work as an instructing in Costa Rico two winters ago Harry noticed several American surfers with disc shaped boards which seemed to suit the consistent shoulder to head high surf of his local break. So on his return for a few weeks last summer we got together and designed the Puffin, the criteria was a board that could catch small waves, out run sections and yet be positive and loose on the face. The simple answer was a Keel fin fish nose and rocker with a thinned out performance tail. So Harry returned to Costa Rico for another winter with a new 6' Puffin. The board went really well and got lots of interest from surfers at the camp, after getting into it Harry found the board slightly too long, so this summer after another trip home Harry returned to Costa Rica with a new updated 5'10" Puffin with less volume and slightly more tail lift and a new 6'4" Five fin Pro Quadster for the bigger days. I think the following photo's speak for themselves!

Pro Quadster

The Pro Quadster is a totally new design incorporating the very latest fin placement ideas. Unlike the Quad fish where the fins are clustered on the rails and work together to create drive, the Quadster's fins are more widely spread. This placement is closer to a thruster set up in how it works, but with the back fin working more efficiently due to its slight toe-in and angled setting.

This board is designed to be a good summer board for experienced surfers slightly flatter in the rocker and a fraction wider in the tail. Its proved to be fast, loose and launchable!

The Quad

The Black and White Quad design is a fish style template fitted with a quad fin set-up. The template makes this board as fast as the twin fin, but with the positive feel of a thruster. The bottom contours are double to single concave running through the swallowtail. The tail has a double sharks tooth winger and wide swallow. We fit the Quad with Lokbox removable fin system and the Turbo Quad fins which give this board extra drive and response.

The Californian Quad Fish

The Quad fish is a real performance shortboard, but after numerous requests we have decided to offer it with a more retro look. All the performance concave will remain but the new "Californian" model will have softer bump wings and a slightly beaked nose, this will create a smoother looking board with more volume in the tail and nose for those who prefer it. Custom wider templates are always available on both Quad Fish models.

Performance Fish Shortboard

The Performance Fish has been one of our best selling shortboard's. It is well suited for British conditions and our design can be adjusted to suit most people’s abilities. Its width not only provides stability but also aids paddling and wave catching, it is fast and manoeuvrable. This is a modern design with bottom contours and a thrusters set-up making it ideal for people who eventually want to move onto a conventional thruster shortboard.

Pro Semi-Gun

The Pro Semi-Gun is another shape that originally evolved through the collaboration of shaper Errol Hickman and our team riders. This is the ultimate traveler’s board, tried and tested again by top surfers Micah Leister and Toby Atkins, designed to handle full on barrels and reefs this board really proved itself in Indo. The design was so reliable that Micah took it to Hawaii and used the 6’6” for his small to medium wave board, making an impression at Off The Wall pulling huge airs and Carving cut backs.

The Mammoth

The Mammoth is the ultimate ‘Big Guy, board if you are 15 stone plus and like to throw your weight into turns this is the board for you. The design is for big performance surfers who are not ready to move to a Longboard just because they need the float! The shape works well as a thrusters or quad fin set-up, single or deep double concave, it responds to the big back foot and drives off the bottom and top with style. 22”+ wide and 3-3.1/4” thick

The Mammoth Quad Fish Fills the gap between the Performance Quad and the Mammoth, so an ideal big guy fish or an alternative more performancey board to minimal's and funboards for improver/intermediate surfers. It has a very versatile template and can be adjusted to suit most peoples requirements, it comes with either single or double wings for more or less tail area and the nose can be full or pulled in.

The Mammoth Quad Fish was originally designed for Phil from Zuma Jay Surf Shop, he needed a board to complement his 6'8" Quad fish, but that was better suited for the larger sucky reef waves of his local break in the Canaries. The board although still 21.3/4" wide was slightly gunny and fairly straight railed for maximum down the line speed, the tail was pulled in with a single large wing to increase hold in the turns. From the original design it became obvious that by making the template fuller and more rounded we had an ideal larger Fish style board. Since then its been a popular choice with surfers of all abilities.
