pro shortboard

Available as Rounded Pintail or Squashtail

A1 and A1 plus" Thrusters

5'8" to 6'10"

The A1 Thruster is a great all-rounder, Adapted from contests boards originally designed for Black and White by Errol Hickman. These shapes have been refined over the past few years to suit modern shortboard styles, without loosing Errol's magic touch.

The A1 Plus is a slightly fuller and wider version of the standard A1, designed for larger surfers or those who like a bit more board to get into waves early

Wallis Pro Quad /Thruster

5'6" to 6'8"

The ideal everyday performance shortboard with all the up to date spec's Slightly wider and flatter rockered than the A1, this board is fast and responsive. Deep concaves and more tail kick allows the board to drive off the tail and lift the slightly flatter nose into arching turns and snaps.
This board can be rider slightly shorter than a standard thruster

The Quadster

5'8" to 6'10"

The Quaster is wider in the tail and narrower in the nose than the Wallis Pro, so another great back foot board with ample drive and grip from the shortboard Quad set-up (different from the fish placements) The higher nose rocker makes this board perform well in bigger, stronger waves and is often used as a second board to complement the Quad Fish and Puffin, Also available with the five fin option.

Quad Bullet

303 Quad Bullet

5'6" to 6'8"

The 303 is my link between the Thruster and the Fish, shortboard nose and wide tail. Moderate nose rocker and wide square diamondtail with four belly channels to direct the water flow over the Quad fins. Capable but not as good as the Quad fish in dribble but comes into its own in chest high plus waves and despite the tail width handles size really well and able to get more vertical off the bottom than the fish shapes

The Puffin

5'6" to 7'

Good all-round fun board, designed for everyday use, summer Mush buster but still able to be enjoyed in average to good surf, at home and abroad. Flat nose rocker for wave catching and speed over the flat spots but lots of tail rocker to lift the nose out of trouble on slightly steeper take-offs.

Puffin II

The Puffin II is thinned out, narrower and has a little more nose rocker than the standard Puffin, Less volume and glide but more responsive if you want more performance. Dimensions below are for the standard Puffin.

Quad Fish

5'8" to 6'10" see the Mammoth Quad for larger sizes

By far the best selling board for the last 5 years, Fast and versatile. unless its huge and sucky this board will always perform. Although the template, volume and rocker has been modified, I have kept the original bottom contours designed by Rich Pavel for his Speed dialer Quad, which he kindly shared with me on one of his visits.

Performance Fish

Over shadowed in later years by the Quad Fish, this design is ideal for UK conditions an intermediates board and stepping stone if you wish to eventually advance to shorter Thruster styles.

The Mammoth

6'10" to 8'4"

The ultimate Big Guy board, designed for larger surfers who know how to use their weight in turns, even at 7ft plus this board snaps off the top and bottom. The design also suits older surfers who shortboard but are struggling to catch waves and get up quickly.

Available as both Thruster or Quad.

mammoth Quad

The Mammoth Quad

6'10" to 8'

This really popular big fish has all the attributes of the Quad Fish, but with length, width and volume to make it as stable as a barn door. The Mammoth Quad makes the Minimal obsolete as a beginners board allowing the surfer to progress to a much high standard without the need to change boards. This template can also be tweaked to suit more experienced surfers and comes with single or double wingers, Thruster or Quad fin set-up.

trad twin

Traditional Twin Fin

5'6" to 6'6

The traditional Twin Fin is a template that hasn't been changed since it first came to this country in the mid / late seventies. This is the style of board that Mark Richards surfed to great affect to win his world titles (but not exclusively) The Twin Fin has incredible speed and manoeuvrability and is an ideal board for British beachbreak waves feeling more like riding a skateboard on a wave rather than a Surfboard. The only addition to the original board is the detachable stabilizer ½ fin which helps to stop excessive side slipping in turns.

keel fin

Keel Fin Fish

5'6" to 6'6"

The Traditional Keel Fin is a more contemporary template, wider in the tail making for slightly straighter rail lines. Very fast and loose with modern rails and bottom shape to make it more responsive.

trad single fin

Traditional Single Fin

6'4" to 7'2"

Traditional 70's Single Fin template, wide point forward makes this a board that requires the rider to move their weight up and down the board to get the best results. Weight forward to trim, step back to turn. The rails and bottom contours have been modified to provide a more forgiving board than the original.

The Puffins Creation

Like most good designs, the Puffin was created from a customer coming to me and saying "lets try making a...." in the Puffins case it was an existing customer Harry Knight. Harry an experienced surfer and instructor has been surfing the Five fin Pro Quadster for several years and has offered valuable feed back which has gone into that models development as well (see Pro Quadster below for photo's) After moving to work as an instructing in Costa Rico two winters ago Harry noticed several American surfers with disc shaped boards which seemed to suit the consistent shoulder to head high surf of his local break. So on his return for a few weeks last summer we got together and designed the Puffin, the criteria was a board that could catch small waves, out run sections and yet be positive and loose on the face. The simple answer was a Keel fin fish nose and rocker with a thinned out performance tail. So Harry returned to Costa Rico for another winter with a new 6' Puffin. The board went really well and got lots of interest from surfers at the camp, after getting into it Harry found the board slightly too long, so this summer after another trip home Harry returned to Costa Rica with a new updated 5'10" Puffin with less volume and slightly more tail lift and a new 6'4" Five fin Pro Quadster for the bigger days. I think the following photo's speak for themselves!

Paul Waters July 2010
